The Registry, the laneways, the river at dusk. From $3,990, planning included.

Adventure without altitude

[ WHY HERE ]

Neon reflecting off a wet street. Sneaking into an old record store in your dress. A whisky bar down a laneway nobody would find on purpose. Late-night pizza on a gutter with your shoes off.

A city elopement isn't the consolation prize. It's the one where you can walk between everything, nobody has to drive, and dinner is fifty metres from where you said your vows.

Where I'd Take You

[ i am obsessed with the city for elopements ]

City Laneways

Burnett Lane, the alleys off Adelaide Street. Brick, fire escapes, and light coming down in strips. Neon signs starting to catch as the sun drops, and a wet street doubling all of it.

LATE AFTERNOON · NO PERMIT

Subways and underpasses

Tiled walls, strip lighting, and the sound of a train somewhere above you. Nobody expects a wedding photograph to look like this. That's exactly why it works.

ANY WEATHER · ANY HOUR

The Modern

Glass, concrete, escalators, the clean geometry of a city that keeps rebuilding itself. Sharp, quiet, and the opposite of everything else on this list.

MIDDAY WORKS · SUNDAYS BEST

Brooklyn Inspired

Warehouse brick, fire stairs, rooftops at blue hour, and late-night pizza eaten on a gutter with your shoes off. New York without the flight.

BLUE HOUR · ROOFTOPS BY ARRANGEMENT

Old bars, new bars

A whisky bar down a laneway nobody would find on purpose. A cocktail bar with a tin ceiling. A record store you can duck into in your dress, still holding a drink.

EVENINGS · ASK AHEAD

Brisbane Registry

Brisbane's Registry Office does the legal part in about fifteen minutes. Most photographers ignore it. It's one of my favourite rooms in the city — and then the rest of the day is yours.

30 MIN · WEEKDAYS ONLY

The city runs on a timeline. I'll hold it.

[ the important details ]

A city elopement has more moving parts than a hinterland one, and almost all of them are logistical. Traffic that turns ten minutes into thirty. Parking that doesn't exist where you need it. A laneway that's suddenly full of a delivery truck. Permits for the parks and gardens, and a phone call to whoever owns the rooftop.

None of that is yours to solve. I plan the route so most of it is on foot — three or four spots close enough to walk between, so we're not losing the day to the car. You follow me. I'll tell you when to move and when to stop.

Sunday mornings are the secret. The city is empty, the light comes down between the buildings, and you can stand in the middle of a street nobody's using.

And there's always somewhere undercover agreed before the day. A Brisbane storm is short, dramatic, and occasionally the best thing that happens.

You don't need a plan or a location. Most people arrive with a feeling and two ideas they've never said out loud.
